This edition’s highlighted chamber member is Arbor School of Central Florida. The mission of The Arbor School is to provide an individualized educational, therapeutic, training and support experience to help people with disabilities achieve their full potential in life.
The Arbor School of Central Florida is a private school serving students with disabilities ages 5 – 22 serving 100 students. Arbor uses a multi-sensory, therapeutic approach to support and enhance the academic, independence, employment, language, and social needs of our students. Founded in 2002, Arbor School was created to fill the unique needs of the students by providing small group and one-on-one instruction with therapeutic supports such as language, music, and occupational therapy. Arbor high school students have the opportunity to participate in our transition to work and independent living with classes in budgeting and cooking as well as receiving on the job training through the support of our many community partners.
The teacher to student ratio is 1:6 serving varying exceptionalities: 40% Autism, 40% Learning Disabilities, and 20% Down syndrome, TBI, and other disorders. Students come to Arbor because they cannot be successful in a traditional educational setting. Their belief is that all children can learn and have seen this belief transform our students with approximately 90% of their graduated students going onto college or a technical school.
